Watford have made another management change after winning only one of their past ten games.

Watford have fired head coach Valerien Ismael and chosen former footballer Tom Cleverley as acting manager.

The Hornets were defeated 2-1 by Coventry on Saturday and have only won one of their previous ten games, dropping to 14th in the Championship standings, seven points above the relegation zone.

A club statement read: The Hornets thank Valerien and his team for their effort and commitment, but the club’s Board believes it is time to make a change in order to enhance performance. Tom Cleverley’s team will be disclosed in due time.”

Cleverley, 34, resigned from football at the end of last season after making 181 appearances for Watford. The former Manchester United player was named the Hornets’ under-18s head coach at the start of the season.

Watford has nine league games left this season and will meet Sunderland at Vicarage Road on Saturday, April 27.Ismael was appointed by Watford in May and signed a new contract in October. His dismissal means Watford is seeking for their 11th head coach since 2018.

Watford will travel to Birmingham this weekend and host Leeds following the international break.
