Recovering Sheffield United hero John Fleck ‘had some sort of fit’ during warm-up ahead of Chesterfield match

According to his coach, former Sheffield United player John Fleck “seems to be ok” following his hospitalisation

prior to Chesterfield’s game against Doncaster Rovers on Thursday night. Assistant manager Danny Webb said that

following a health scare that sent the former Sheffield United midfielder to the hospital, John Fleck was “speaking

and with a smile on his face.”

The Derbyshire Times reports that Fleck passed out during the warm-up and was carried off the pitch on a stretcher

before being sent to the hospital.

The Spireites match against Doncaster Rovers was delayed by 10 minutes as Fleck received treatment.

Webb was positive about Fleck but admitted the players had been affected by what had happened before the game,

whcih they won 5-2.

“He had a fit of some sort,” Webb told Derbyshire Times. “The last we saw of him he was on a stretcher leaving,

conscious, speaking and with a smile on his face. We will know more tomorrow. He is in good hands. Fingers crossed

he seems to be okay.

“You forget about football for a while when John was on the floor during the warm-up. Before kickoff, there was a lot

of silence in our dressing room. As staff, we made an effort to elevate the lads and inform them that John appeared

to be doing well when he departed. Because they care for him and he is a teammate, they were flat. For John, they

went out there and scored three points.

When Fleck slumped on the pitch during a 2021 match against Reading, he experienced a similar medical episode

while playing for United.
