West Brom v Sheffield Wednesday: Albion need to be wary of comeback specialists
Sheffield Wednesday has a noteworthy statistic that has helped them move up the Championship table going into
their Saturday matchup at The Hawthorns.
In search of a second straight home victory and a reaction to blowing a lead at Plymouth last week, Tony Mowbray’s
team travels to the West Midlands to play Danny Rohl’s Owls.
The Pilgrims overcame a goal deficit at Home Park with two late goals, and Albion will play the league’s best at
falling behind and winning on Saturday.
Rohl’s side, who sit just behind Albion in the table and could leapfrog the Baggies into the play-off places with a
victory, have won more points from losing positions this season than any other side in the division.
Those late shows from Rohl’s side have seen them climb from the fringes of the relegation back at the start of the
season, to very much becoming play-off contenders over recent weeks.
Despite that comeback statistic, they have won just once in their last five outings but remain well in the top six
picture which underlines how tight the Championship is this season.
Wednesday travel to The Hawthorns on Saturday on the back of adding just two new players in the January transfer
window.
Following a dismal stint at Plymouth, former Celtic and Southampton midfielder Stuart Armstrong, who was briefly
linked to Albion, has joined from Vancouver Whitecaps, while Ibrahim Cissoko is on loan from Toulouse.
Holding onto key midfielder Shea Charles was arguably Wednesday’s most important task. The Northern Ireland
international will now stay with the Owls until the end of the season, even though his original club, Southampton,
was set to recall him.
It came as a huge boost to Rohl’s side, having already played such a key role in their rise up the league since his
arrival at the club back in the summer.
