“Surprised” claim made on West Brom player who did not leave the Hawthorns in January

“Surprised” claim made on West Brom player who did not leave the Hawthorns in January.

This post is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which features personal comments from FLW Fan Pundits on breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings, and more. West Brom were busy in the January transfer window until Monday night’s deadline. Tony Mowbray is back in charge at The Hawthorns, and he took advantage of the opportunity to make some changes to the Baggies’ first-team lineup. Tammer Bany, Isaac Price, Adam Armstrong, and Will Lankshear all arrived at the Hawthorns to help the team’s hopes of qualifying for the playoffs.

West Brom were also active with their departures, with Alex Palmer departing on a permanent basis, moving to Ipswich Town, while Caleb Taylor joined Wycombe Wanderers on loan.

Devante Cole transfer surprise raised

When asked which member of the team he was surprised did not leave in January, FLW’s West Brom fan analyst Callum Burgess named Devante Cole. He emphasised Mowbray’s numerous attacking alternatives and predicted that the forward will face even more competition for game time in the second half of the season. “I’m surprised that no offers came in for Devante Cole,” Burgess told Football League World. “Because, after being unpopular with Corberan, then the caretaker team, who were in charge of the team following Carlos’ departure, and now Tony Mowbray.

“That’s three straight coaching staffs who haven’t shown any interest in Devante Cole. “Especially now that Will Lankshear has joined on loan, Bany is an option up forward, but Karlan Grant and Jed Wallace have been mentioned ahead of him. “They have Daryl Dike coming back from injury, Josh Maja, and Adam Armstrong. “They have so many options ahead of him, and he may not even make the bench from now on. “So, no doubt that he’ll be upset with his situation, and even in the summer, when Albion signed him, I was a little surprised since he’s never really been at the level of the Championship, let alone one aiming to be competing with the top six.

“I was wondering if a League One loan opportunity would’ve come up at the last minute for him to be moved on, but that’s one that I can definitely see happening in the summer at the very least now.” Cole has made 14 appearances in the Championship this season, all as a substitute.

Cole will struggle for minutes at West Brom

Cole’s summer signing appeared to have promise, given how well he had performed in League One for Barnsley. However, it has been evident for some time that things aren’t going well for the 29-year-old, and it’s strange that a loan move was not considered in January. Given West Brom’s striking depth, Cole is unlikely to play much between now and the conclusion of the season. A summer departure is unavoidable at that time, which would benefit both sides.
