Sky Sports: Rangers and Scotland legend speaks out on Reading FC turmoil.
Scotland and Rangers star Ally McCoist described Reading’s plight as ‘heart-breaking’ during a TalkSPORT interview with famous presenter Jeff Stelling. McCoist, who scored over 350 goals in 581 appearances for the Gers, co-hosted the TalkSPORT breakfast show with Jeff Stelling, a former Soccer Special host and renowned presenter. Reading fans had contacted us in order to raise awareness of the club’s ongoing ownership dilemma, and we both gladly cooperated. “Reading fans see this as another nail in their coffin,” Stelling remarked of Sam Smith’s transfer to Wrexham for short-term funding. “Signing their star players- Noel Hunt says he was ‘hurt and upset’ that they sold Sam Smith. The club has been for sale for 500 days and every suitor seems not to be able to satisfy Dai Yongge. If you’re a fan, you must wonder what do you do? They’ve had the tennis ball protest, they’ve been docked points, they’ve had transfer embargoes slapped on them. What do you do when you see your club effectively being killed?”
McCoist answered, “It’s heartbreaking–in front of their very eyes.” In response to your question, I do not know Jeff. “What do they do?” “I don’t know,” Stelling said. “We discussed Morecambe a couple of weeks ago. I am not clear what the EFL’s responsibilities are or what they can do. Surely someone has to do something other than sit and watch a club that was in the top level not long ago.” READ MORE: Manchester United and England captains speak about Reading FC. Stelling, a staunch supporter of the football pyramid and a champion of lower league football, had commended Royals fans for causing a match against Port Vale to be abandoned last year due to owner Dai Yongge.
