Town’s Christmas lights switch-on cancelled amid Storm Bert wind warning

A town’s highly-anticipated Christmas lights switch-on has been cancelled amid high winds caused by Storm Bert.

The festive event in King’s Lynn was scheduled for 5 p.m. today at the Tuesday Market Place.

However, a spokeswoman for the switch-on has confirmed that the celebration has been cancelled “due to the current yellow weather warning and strong windy conditions.”
The Soul Sisters, the St Martha’s School Choir, Simon Rowe from Radio West Norfolk, and Vex were all scheduled to perform sets of holiday classics during the event.
A lantern procession and a meet-and-greet with Cinderella from the Corn Exchange’s most recent pantomime were also scheduled.

At 5 p.m., town mayor Paul Bland and Cinderella would have switched on the lights.

A spokesman for King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council said, “The activities planned for The Place by Discover King’s Lynn & Vancouver Quarter are also cancelled today.”

It has not yet been announced whether the event would be rescheduled.
