‘Dare I suggest…’: Gary Lineker responds to Sean Dyche claim after loss v Manchester United

Gary Lineker has instantly responded to Everton manager Sean Dyche’s claim that his strikers are lacking desire in front of goal, following the Toffees’ defeat to Manchester United.

The Toffees’ Premier League losing streak reached 11 games on Saturday, March 9, as they were defeated 2-0 at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford in the first half.

Although Dyche bemoaned his team’s lack of effort and desire to put the ball in the goal, Lineker was quick to dispute. Dyche’s team had plenty of opportunity to score but wasted numerous quality chances.

Speaking on Match Of The Day (9 March, 27:45) he said: “Dare I suggest calmness is better than that.”

Will Everton be able to avoid relegation under Sean Dyche?

Everton

Even though Everton still has a bit of a buffer between them and the relegation zone, it seems like pressure is building on the Toffees with every week that goes by as they keep dropping closer and closer to the dropzone after a number of subpar performances.

The Toffees constantly blow opportunities and don’t seem to have the same level of conviction that their opponents do when putting the ball in the net, so it doesn’t look like they could even buy a goal right now.

They have been difficult to break down at the back, but they conceded two goals against Manchester United, which put Dyche’s team behind virtually quickly. In order to avoid dropping, Everton needs to make a change.

Dyche needs to find a method to fire his frontline, or else the Toffees may have a difficult few weeks ahead of them. Few would argue that Dyche deserves to be fired or that those in authority on the blue half of Merseyside should be putting pressure on him.
