Sunderland host West Brom at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday evening
West Brom head coach Carlos Corberan has confirmed that the Baggies are waiting for the results of a Monday scan before deciding if Grady Diangana will be available for their trip to Sunderland on Tuesday evening.
The Black Cats meet Albion in midweek at the Stadium of Light, hoping to win after four consecutive draws. West Brom also had to settle for a share of the spoils this weekend, drawing 2-2 with Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.
However, if they are to pick up all three points on Wearside, they may have to do so without Diangana available. The 26-year-old was not included in Corberan’s match-day squad against Norwich, and when asked about his omission after the game, the Spaniard said: “In the previous weeks, Grady had some problems with tiny things, not an injury.
“He had previously suffered with ankle, Achilles, and calf issues. His calf felt tight during Friday’s training session. Given the next time, we will not take any chances, especially with a player who was unable to train yesterday. The problem with the calf now requires a scan; tomorrow is Sunday, so he cannot have the scan; we must wait until Monday to check the scan to determine whether he can train with the group and participate in the next game or not.”
Diangana has appeared in 12 Championship games for West Brom this season, but has failed to score or assist in any of them. If Corberan’s plans do not involve the attacker, he will most likely join long-term absentees Semi Ajayi, Daryl Dike, and Paddy McNair on the sidelines.
Defender Kyle Bartley is another player whose availability for the trip to the Stadium of Light is uncertain. His head coach stated late last week: “The goal is to be ready for next weekend. I’m quite pleased with how I saw him today. If he completes the training with the group on Sunday and Monday, it is possible for Tuesday, but the goal was to complete it over the weekend rather than during the week. One thing is the target; another is his reaction.”
