Neil Warnock reacts instantly to Rangers controversy v Aberdeen, ‘we don’t get that in England’

In response to the referee’s decision to uphold Dujon Sterling’s red card during Rangers vs. Aberdeen, Neil Warnock responded immediately.

Late in the Scottish Premiership match on Tuesday, February 6, at Ibrox, the midfield player received a straight red card, which the home team eventually won 2-1.

VAR advised the referee to review the decision, but after taking a moment to view the replays of the tackle on Jack McKenzie, the official stuck with the red card.

“It makes a change doesn’t it for a referee to be brave and stick with his decision, we don’t get that in England,” Warnock said on Sky Sports Football (5 February, 10.35pm).

Sterling unlucky for Rangers?

Warnock was handed the most difficult of matches on his Aberdeen debut, with Rangers undoubtedly the in-form team in Scottish football right now.

Even if the manager has a stellar record in the dugout and has experienced it all, this journey to Ibrox would have been intimidating.

From the first whistle, the Glasgow stadium was resounding with cheers, and the home crowd knew exactly what was at risk. Philippe Clement’s team would have surpassed fierce rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with a three-goal victory.

That didn’t exactly happen, but the Gers are now level on points with the Bhoys, with the latter ahead only on goal difference.

Thanks to a goal by Rabbi Matondo, the hosts got off to a great start. However, Bojan Miovski’s goal tied the score just before halftime. After that, Todd Cantwell gave the Ibrox club the lead, but Sterling’s departure made the last few minutes nervous for the home team.

The midfielder might argue that he slipped while making the tackle, but it was a rash decision to fly in nonetheless, having only just come on as a substitute.
