In a harsh critique of Ruben Amorim’s debut game as Manchester United’s manager, Gary Neville claims that
Ipswich played as though they had a “better coach.”
Amorim got off to a fantastic start on Sunday thanks to a goal from Marcus Rashford after two minutes, but Omari
Hutchinson’s excellent long-range effort tied the score at one.
Amorim’s move to a 3-4-3 formation has generated a lot of discussion, and the new Red Devils manager maintains
that his team will require some time to get used to the new configuration.
Neville asserted that the “red flags” that existed under Erik ten Hag are still present under the new management,
even as Jamie Carragher emphasized Amorim’s “big problem.”
Neville said to Sky Sports, “I mean, the red flags that were there yesterday have probably been there in the last few
months and the last season and a half.”
“I say that with respect because I genuinely believe what Ruben Amorim said at the end of the game: it’s a team that
is very difficult to actually enjoy watching.”
“No football player enters the field. They’re not looking for criticism.
Neville continued by saying that Ipswich, who are in 18th place and are led by Kieran McKenna, a former United
assistant, appeared to be better taught.
“But you watch them play, even yesterday, in the new system, and you look at Ipswich, who are very near the bottom
of the league,” the former United defender went on.
“They appeared more organized, [like they had a] better coach, and they appeared to be more enthusiastic and
hungry for the game.”
And that’s a constant, and it has been for the past year and a half, two years, and three years—not only on Sunday, of
course.
To be honest with you, we have a situation where these players have established a pattern for themselves and
developed into who they are.
Additionally, yesterday wasn’t only a warning sign because we observed the same things that we have in the previous
six to eight and ten months.
.The manager, Ruben Amorim, also witnessed it. I believe he was well aware of the magnitude of the task. I believe
he was aware of that yesterday.
However, the Sky Sports analyst did support United’s improvement under the Portuguese coach once more players
from his team are available.
