‘No signings’ transfer deadline day statement drops as Leeds United rival sets precedent
The Robins told supporters Monday morning that they are confident the present team can meet the team’s objectives for the rest of the season and that they would not be making any additions before the transfer deadline of 11 p.m.
Bristol City has informed fans that trading is complete until the summer and is one of just three Championship teams that have not signed this month.According to the Robins’ statement, “January isn’t the best time to do business, even though it’s a time for the media to get excited.” Fans’ desire for additions is understandable, but for us going into January, maintaining the core of the team was crucial. This offers the group of players the possibility to advance further and to build upon the strong foundation established in the first two-thirds of the season.
“We have now successfully reduced the impact on our first team while closing the financial shortfall. Together, the players that recently left on loan have only made five league starts this season. While Bristol City are not adding any new signings, the club sweetened its press release with contract details to placate supporters.
“We are adding some certainty, but we are not expanding the squad’s size. “We are looking forward to the remainder of the season with real excitement and belief as to what our playing group and staff can potentially achieve.” We are happy to announce that we have extended Mark Sykes’ contract until the summer of 2026 and that we will be making Yu Hirakawa’s signing permanent in the coming days.
Leeds, meantime, is still keeping an eye on Southampton forward Cameron Archer, and Daniel Farke is amenable to adding a striker before tonight’s deadline, provided that the criteria of quality, availability, and price are met.
