Ipswich Town set to sign Chelsea left-back Somto Boniface

The 18-year-old will now get a medical examination after the Blues reached an agreement, as initially reported by the Daily Telegraph.

Ipswich Town is getting closer to signing Chelsea’s teenage left-back Somto Boniface on transfer deadline day.

The England Under-18 international will join as a youth team player rather than immediately joining the first team squad, according to the EADT and Ipswich Star.

Conor Townsend and Leif Davis are Town’s current senior left-back options.

Tonight at 11 p.m., the January transfer window closes.

Ipswich Town might add two more senior players to their squad if they chose to deregister long-term injury victims Chiedozie Ogbene and Wes Burns for the remainder of the year.

Since Kalvin Phillips and Julio Enciso are the club’s two-man maximum, they are unable to sign any more domestic loan players.

Following Saturday’s heartbreaking 2-1 home loss to bottom-place Southampton, Blues manager Kieran McKenna reaffirmed his belief that the ins and outs front will be quiet today.
