Fabrizio Romano confirms £39m double Middlesbrough transfer boost ahead of Sunderland clash

Sunderland play their North East rivals Middlesbrough on Monday night at 8pm in the Championship.

Middlesbrough are allegedly close to a double transfer deal before of Monday night’s clash against Sunderland.

The Championship match between the two clubs will take place at the Riverside Stadium at 8pm, with the transfer window still open for three hours. Before the game, Boro manager Michael Carrick seemed to have received a double transfer boost.

According to transfer source Fabrizio Romano, Middlesbrough are presently concluding deals for Samuel Iling Junior and Kelechi Iheanacho. He also adds that Aston Villa has signed all the paperwork for a new loan after recalling Iling Jr from Bologna. The pair have not yet been declared as Boro players, but their signings appear to be all but certain.

The announcement gives Carrick and Middlesbrough a big boost ahead of their encounter against Sunderland. Although neither will be signed in time to face the Black Cats, the additions will significantly improve the Teessiders’ top-six hopes. Iheanacho, 28, previously joined Leicester City from Manchester City for a whopping £25 million.

Last year, Iling-Junior, 21, signed a permanent contract with Premier League club Aston Villa as part of a double transfer from Juventus that included Enzo Barrenechea. The sale included a €14 million cost plus €3 million in add-ons, for a total of about £14 million in UK money.

Middlesbrough appear to have sanctioned an outgoing, with striker Emmanuel Latte Lath having taken his medical ahead of his move to Atlanta, America. Middlesbrough will spend up to £22 million on the striker, an MLS record. The trade is comprised of a £18 million fee plus £4 million in add-ons.
