‘Medical today’ – Middlesbrough nearing deal for £25m striker ahead of Sunderland clash in Championship
Prior to Monday’s Championship match against Sunderland at Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough has been given a transfer blitz. According to reports, Middlesbrough is getting closer to signing Sevilla forward Kelechi Iheanacho on loan. The 28-year-old once paid an incredible £25 million to move from Manchester City to Leicester City. Although it is unlikely that the striker would be allowed to feature in the match, the move would provide Boro manager Michael Carrick a significant boost ahead of Monday’s match.
After his contract with Leicester City expired last summer, Iheanacho joined Spanish team Sevilla on a free transfer. In his 307 appearances across all competitions thus far, he has scored 85 goals. According to a report by Sky Sports, Middlesbrough and Sevilla have reached an agreement for Middlesbrough to loan forward Kelechi Iheanacho. Prior to his transfer, the 28-year-old will have a medical examination in the Northeast today. Iheanacho, a Nigerian international who joined Sevilla from Leicester last summer, has had difficulty getting playing time. Boro will cover a sizable portion of his Sevilla salary.
Mike Dodds, Sunderland’s first-team coach, is expected to leave before the match against Middlesbrough. Wycombe Wanderers, a League One team, will be led by Dodds. Before the match against Middlesbrough, that transfer will deal Régis Le Bris a serious blow. The Black Cats are still being connected to Liverpool’s Jayden Danns. Nonetheless, Brighton, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace are showing interest in Tommy Watson.
