Aston Villa crest update as Chris Heck drops new kit teaser

Birmingham’s Aston Villa newsChris Heck provides a live update on the new club crest.

Chris Heck, president of commercial operations at Aston Villa, has said that the new club crest will be shown to all supporters in a few weeks.

Villa announced in September that they will not be using the new round badge after this season.

The goal of Villa’s 150th anniversary celebration is to establish a legacy that will last for the next 150 years and beyond.

The team started examining its visual identity earlier this year, looking into redesigning the shield crest.

After a protracted process of fan feedback, two shortlisted crest ideas were shown to season ticket holders and

members, who were then asked to cast their votes for their favorite to become the new club crest.

However, despite 77 per cent of the crest vote favouring the round design ahead of the gas lamp design, the

club concluded that the design has not had the impact which had been hoped when it was introduced.

The crest, which pays homage to the club’s European Cup-winning heroes of 1982, appears on Villa’s playing and training kits this season.

Using the results of that original process as the foundation, the club has engaged with supporters in order

to arrive at a permanent identity for Villa. In an update, Heck has confirmed the new crest will be revealed shortly.

“We are working very closely with supporter groups and individuals that are fans,” Heck told Villa TV.

“The crest is for the fan. It is worn by the players and it is for the fan.

“We’re giving them the reins to determine what’s best. For the next 150 years and for the club, it will be fantastic.

“It is hoped that when the crest is finished this winter, it will be displayed to all supporters.

That should happen in a few weeks, I think. I can’t wait to see how that turns out.

“I’ll state that come summertime, the crest will be on the kit. Come summer, I expect the kit will have

a lot of intriguing new features, perhaps even the 150th marque.”
