Everton and Fulham in deadline day transfer battle for trophy laden forward

David Moyes has enjoyed a brilliant past few weeks at the club since arriving as Sean Dyche’s successor.

But the Scot knows he needs additions to ensure Everton don’t get sucked into a relegation battle.

Moyes has had a brilliant impact so far, but the feeling is that Everton need a couple of players to push up the table. Alan Shearer recently urged Everton to make two signings to avoid getting into trouble at the end of the season.

Charly Alcaraz is set to sign for Everton after a deal was agreed for him to join from Flamengo.

But Everton also want to bring in a forward player, and Timothy Weah is a player who’s been linked with the club.

Everton still pushing to sign Timothy Weah as update on Juventus stance shared

Timothy Weah participates in the Serie A 2024-2025 match between Juventus and Empoli in Turin, Italy, on February 2, 2025.

According to the very reliable Guardian journalist Ed Aarons earlier today, Everton are one of three clubs looking to sign Weah before tomorrow night’s deadline.

Fulham are also keen, as are RB Leipzig of the Bundesliga.

He said: “Understand that Everton, Fulham and RB Leipzig are interested in signing Timothy Weah from Juventus but the USA forward is unlikely to be allowed to leave Juventus.”

So far this season, Weah – who has already won eight trophies at club level – has scored five goals and made five assists.

It was claimed earlier in the window that Juventus weren’t going to sell Weah amid interest from Everton.

Ernest Nuamah has also been linked with Everton, while his Lyon teammate Rayan Cherki has also been mentioned as a possible incoming.

Everton’s need for a forward has lessened after Moyes’ arrival

So Everton now have just over 24 hours left to get players in, but the need for a new forward has lessened recently.

So far, Everton have scored eight goals in the Premier League under Moyes in just four games. In 19 games under Dyche, Everton scored 15.

There has been a big improvement in the final third, so it would not be so disastrous if Everton didn’t actually bring someone in.

That said, it could be a gamble for Everton to put their faith in their existing options and most fans would probably feel more comfortable if someone like Weah or Nuamah did come in to add some extra firepower.

Alcaraz underwent his Everton medical on Sunday and will likely be announced on Monday, the final day of the winter transfer window.

Everton are expected to get one or two more through the door at Goodison Park before the window slams shut.

David Moyes wants further attacking reinforcements and Sunderland’s Tommy Watson has been linked to Goodison Park.

Everton have also been eyeing Carney Chukwuemeka, who is expected to leave Chelsea on loan after being deemed surplus to requirements by Enzo Maresca.

And with that said, the latest update on Chukwuemeka has just come to light.

Everton target Carney Chukwuemeka closes in on Borussia Dortmund switch

Everton have been linked with Chelsea playmaker Chukwuemeka all month and a loan deal was mooted, however, it now seems that deal is off the table.

The Toffees haven’t been able to free up one of their domestic loan spots and so Borussia Dortmund have stolen a march on his signature.

According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Dortmund have booked a flight for Chukwuemeka to fly over to Germany tonight.

The £20m Chelsea midfielder is expected to undergo a medical tomorrow ahead of a six-month loan deal, so Everton will have to turn their attention to alternate targets.

Everton should place full focus on Tommy Watson

With the Chukwuemeka deal now off the table, Everton should now place their full focus on signing Watson from Championship promotion hopefuls Sunderland.

The teenage wide player has enjoyed a promising breakout season with the Black Cats and is a man in demand ahead of the deadline.

Brighton have just lodged a £12m bid to sign him whilst Tottenham Hotspur are also circling, so clearly there’s stiff competition.

But Everton can offer an immediate pathway into the starting line-up, so there’s a genuine opportunity to land Watson’s signature.

A telling 24 hours lie ahead on Merseyside.
