Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness says the reaction of Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was “understandable” after he was pictured on the pitch after their defeat to Liverpool last week.
The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite clubs after serving as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, claimed that Forest has now seen numerous bad refereeing calls this season in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
On Saturday, March 2, Forest lost 1-0 to Liverpool in a late-night match. Darwin Nunez scored the game’s lone goal in the 99th minute after referee Paul Tierney granted the visitors the ball on a drop-ball.
After the game, coaching staff members got into a fight with officials, and Forest owner Marinakis was seen protesting to them on the field.
According to Football Insider, some fans called the events “terrifying” when they examined how they reacted to the occurrence.

Wyness told Football Insider, “It was almost understandable that Marinakis reacted this way.”
Forest has enlisted Clattenburg as its referee advisor due to a series of incidents that have occurred.
“It’s because they were compelled to go down that path after three, four, or five previous occurrences, not just this one.
They do appear to have numerous instances of really bad calls.
“I understand that the referee in the weekend incident did not appropriately enforce the rules of the game.
“So, it goes without saying that you will be upset when the referees violate the regulation in the ninth minute of injury time.
We all understand the emotional and financial toll that relegation has on these teams, and Marinakis has undoubtedly made a significant financial investment as well.
