Rangers could pull off Bojan Miovski from Aberdeen amid Neil Warnock relegation battle

Rangers could peel off Bojan Miovski from Aberdeen amid Neil Warnock relegation struggle.

Rangers might take advantage of Aberdeen’s troubles this season with a chance at signing Bojan Miovski in the summer, suggests Jonny McFarlane.

The Rangers Review journalist said on 5 March that he doesn’t feel current Ibrox number nine Cyriel Dessers is up to the necessary quality to lead the line for Philippe Clement, highlighted the Dons star and Hearts skipper Lawrence Shankland as an upgrade over anyone in the Gers team.

And while he acknowledged the challenge of arranging a deal with Aberdeen he pointed out that their form under Neil Warnock might bring relegation into play and could open the door to a deal for the Macedonian.

McFarlane stated (13m 55s): “I just don’t think Dessers is that guy, whereas Shankland, for me, or Miovski at Aberdeen, those two are better than anything Rangers have.

“If you go and get those two in the summer, I know Aberdeen will be almost impossible to deal with but the way they are going they’re going to have relegation on their mind at the moment so you never know how that’s going to pan out.”

Pittodrie star a viable summer option for Rangers over Cyriel Dessers?

Miovski, 24, has been put forward as the answer to the apparent troubles in attack at Ibrox on a number of occasions through this season, but has mostly dropped behind Shankland as a contender.

He is trailing the Hearts hero by seven in the SPFL scoring charts (13 to 20) but has still delivered 22 in all competitions so far despite the struggles at Pittodrie.

The Dons haven’t won a league game since 2 January and Warnock’s high-profile arrival has done nothing to lift their fortunes, while the 75-year-old has gone from branding Miovski the best striker he’s ever had [STV, 13 February] to being accused of “poor management” by Willie Miller after he “threw Miovski under the bus at Rugby Park” [BBC Scotland via Daily Record, 29 February].

He is expected to be much more expensive that Shankland would be at the end of the season if the Scot continues to reject Tynecastle contract extensions, but is four years younger, and if Warnock drives the club into actual trouble it might transform the situation totally.

His stats on paper arguably suggest he isn’t a significant upgrade on Dessers (16 goals this season), but his game is more highly-rated and he might realistically be expected to surpass those marks in a title-chasing Rangers side.
