Ianis Hagi in Rangers loan nightmare as exile row catches fire with Romanian FA unloading on ‘unfair’ Alaves

More questions have been made in Romania over Ianis Hagi’s continuing isolation from the Alaves starting XI, this time from a well-known FA figure.

The Romanian loanee from the Rangers was benched for the eleventh straight league game this past weekend, continuing a troubling trend in which he has been mostly used out of the lineup. Although Hagi did see four minutes off the bench against Osasuna, manager Luis Garcia’s decision to put Hagi at the back of the lineup comes during a losing streak that has caused them to drop in the La Liga standings. Furthermore, it has caused grave worry in Hagi’s native country.

With Hagi’s rockstar status back home, pundits in Romania have questioned whether he should be included in the squad for Euro 2024 should his circumstances alter. This has been dubbed a “big problem.” Mihai Stoichita, the technical director of the Romanian FA, has now chimed in on the matter and criticized Alaves for not using him.

“It’s not as if Alaves are brilliant or anything. I keep watching their games and it doesn’t even register that Ianis isn’t playing – I just presume he is not. And when I do watch their matches, I look at their players and there is no doubt that Ianis could do as well if not better than them. “I ask myself why is the manager being unfair to him? Ianis is someone who can get you a goal at any time, he can unlock defences with a pass. They keep losing or drawing with the same group of players. Why sign him in the first place?”
