Five reported Rangers transfer targets start as PL hopefuls destroy relegation candidates

Five reported Rangers transfer targets start as Arsenal hammer Sheffield United

While Arsenal destroyed Sheffield United, no fewer than five players who have been linked to Rangers in recent transfer windows were on the field.

This season, Manchester City and Liverpool will be tough opponents for the Gunners in their three-way race for the Premier League championship.

The North London team, led by former Rangers midfielder Mikel Arteta, has a history of dominating opponents, and Arsenal was once again firing on all cylinders when they visited Bramall Lane.

Rangers supporters will recognize a number of the Blades’ starting lineup after they destroyed Sheffield United 6-0 on their home turf.

Bombed-away Rangers transfer targets

Former Arsenal defender Austin Trusty played against his old team in the encounter, and the Sheffield United player was utterly humiliated by the Gunners.

But before a £5 million summer transfer to Bramall Lane, there was a lot of discussion about a move to Rangers, which never happened—most likely because of the exorbitant transfer fee.

James McAtee, a midfield player on loan from Manchester City to Sheffield United, was also heavily connected to a January 2022 loan move to Rangers.

Another name familiar to Rangers supporters is Tom Davies, a former midfielder for Everton who was released by the Goodison Park club and then signed with the Blades.

Even last season, when Michael Beale was the manager, questions were raised over links to the midfield player, but a possible move never happened.

Next are former Coventry midfielder Gustavo Hamer, who was connected to Rangers while he was a Sky Blues player, and bluenose forward Oliver McBurnie, who has been associated with Ibrox all of his career.

Comparing the fortunes of Arsenal with Sheffield United

After Sheffield United’s utter humiliation at the hands of Arsenal on that afternoon, maybe Rangers supporters will be relieved that the team chose not to pursue these five choices.

Although they possess talent, the Blades are currently eleven points from safety and at the bottom of the Premier League, which is a terrible situation for the team.

With goals from Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Jayden Bogle (OG), Martin Odegaard, and Kai Havertz, Arsenal led the Premier League’s worst team 5-0 at the break.

After defender Ben White added a sixth goal in the second half of the game, Arsenal finished third, one point ahead of Man City, and two points ahead of Liverpool.
