Everton were desperately unlucky to lose Saturday’s home clash, but that is a phrase becoming worryingly regular as the season nears its climax.
The Toffees, who haven’t won a league game in 2024, are only five points from safety with three months remaining in the Premier League.
Sean Dyche is making every effort to dispatch a team that can complete the task each week, but they keep failing him. Usually, the manager bears the majority of the blame when the team performs poorly, but things are different at this club.
All of the managers who have gone through a similar set of players and recycled them have been disappointed.

Lineker even made the comparison between their problems and Burnley’s: “It was a bizarre game, they won 3-1 at Everton but Everton, lads. It’s the tale of—well, more than just this season—but not being able to complete it when they have as many opportunities as they do.
“They have a tonne, but as Alan mentioned regarding Burnley, it’s kind of a crucial component of the game, isn’t it, completing it off.”
Sean Dyche needs to sort out a worrying trend
As previously indicated, Dyche needs to address this tendency immediately.
Everton had a 2.73 expected goals against goal average but could only muster one goal despite barging Alphonse Areola’s goal frequently.
Furthermore, this is by no means the first time they have performed so terribly poorly.
Having scored just 29 goals out of the 47.13 they were supposed to have scored, they really have the greatest underperformance of predicted goals in the whole Premier League.
Chelsea is the closest, with an 8.03 gap between their projection and actual results.
But Dyche is no longer able to feel sorry for himself or the alleged lack of quality in his work. They need results immediately, and if their bad luck continues, there won’t be any favours in the battle to avoid relegation.
They have to fight for every point and make every effort to stay afloat.
It’s time to stop this tendency, whether it involves working out more on the training pitch or overcoming mental obstacles to boost self-assurance.
