‘Interesting’: Chris Sutton thinks Sean Dyche has ran out of patience with Everton star

Everton must wait a little longer for their first three points of 2024 after West Ham United’s snatch-and-grab win on Saturday.

Sean Dyche’s team was left to lament lost opportunities that could have eliminated the Toffees from view once more.

The Everton manager made the decision to bench Dominic Calvert-Lewin and give Bernie an opportunity right away before the game.

The Portuguese striker gave Everton the lead with a header in the 56th minute, but he missed a penalty in the first half.

Furthermore, Chris Sutton asserted that following Calvert-Lewin’s weekend jab, Dyche has now run out of patience with him.

Sutton stated on Monday Night Club on BBC Sport that he thinks the 26-year-old has outplayed Dyche in his intentions.

“It was intriguing to be left out over the weekend; Beto started and failed to convert a penalty kick,” he remarked.

When the season first began, I genuinely believed that Calvert-Lewin’s ability to establish a rhythm and a run of games would be crucial to Everton’s chances of finishing in the Premier League.

“He has demonstrated in the past that he can effectively lead the line in addition to being a respectable goal scorer.”

The former Celtic striker asserted that, given Calvert-Lewin’s goal-scoring tendencies, Dyche’s tolerance had now run out.

“He performed well at the beginning of the season, but he has just faded away, hesitated, and he may even claim that he is not receiving the service,” he continued.

“He’s simply lost his direction as the season has progressed, and it appears that Sean Dyche has reached his limit with him at this point; he’s effectively played his way off the team.”

Everton lack cutting edge

The striker for Everton is falling short with his finishing touch.

His xG (expected goals) according to Sofascore is 9.21. So far, he has only scored three goals. It is evident that Calvert-Lewin is making progress in the right directions but is unable to deliver the necessary final product.

Throughout the campaign, Dyche’s team has struggled with this problem. Everton’s overall xG is 41.6, per FootMob. The Toffees would have scored 12 more goals if they had taken the predicted opportunities to score.

Naturally, the pressure will only mount due to the criticism around their blatant problems with goal scoring.

However, something has to happen soon to prevent a very tense conclusion to the season.
