Paul Tierney has been removed from refereeing duties following mistake

He will not act as a referee in the next round of Premier League games

Following his mistake during Nottingham Forest’s match against Liverpool over the weekend, referee Paul Tierney has been relieved of his responsibilities.

After play was resumed following a delay due to a head injury sustained by the Reds’ Ibrahima Konate, the referee came under fire for handing the ball to goaltender Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool.

It happened even though Forest was in possession before the play-stoppage.

Darwin Nunez of Liverpool then added a header to put the Reds ahead and secure the crucial three points in the championship match.

Just one minute and fifty seconds after Tierney gave Kelleher the ball to resume the game, the goal was scored in the 99th minute of play.

According to the International Football Association Board’s regulations, Forest was supposed to have resumed possession from the beginning.

Although Forest was able to retrieve possession prior to the Liverpool player scoring, Tierney’s blunder did not directly lead to Nunez’s goal. Nevertheless, the Nottingham players swarmed the referee during the game to voice their opinions about his error.

Because to their swarming of the pitch, Forest coach Steven Reid was even given a red card.

Naturally, the Forest supporters were incensed, and it appears that Tierney is now feeling the brunt of their wrath.

Tierney will serve as the video assistant referee (VAR) for Arsenal vs. Brentford on Saturday, according to BBC Sport, even though he has not been chosen to officiate any Premier League games in the upcoming round.
