Forest has no right to moan about Liverpool’s winner insists Sutton

Chris Sutton believes Nottingham Forest have no right to moan about Liverpool‘s controversial late winner at the City Ground on Saturday.

In the ninth minute of stoppage time, Darwin Nunez, a replacement, headed in a stunning goal from Alexis Mac Allister’s cross, giving Forest hope for a point.

They were upset with the goal because, despite Forest holding the ball at the time, referee Paul Tierney gave it back to Liverpool when play was paused due to Ibrahima Konate’s head injury.

Just than two minutes later, Liverpool scored. Sutton maintains that Tierney “did not help” the Reds and feels that Forest had enough time to stop the goal.

During an interview with Mail Sport’s podcast It’s All Kicking Off, Sutton stated: “Paul Tierney didn’t help them (Liverpool).” I’m over this argument, Nottingham Forest, and the assigning of blame.

The time between Tierney passing the ball to Liverpool and the goal was one minute and fifty-two seconds. Is that really almost two minutes? I don’t dispute any of that, but I believe Paul Tierney left himself vulnerable to the whole attack.

However, the fury was sparked by the owner, Evangellos Marinakis, entering the pitch and several of the Forest coaches being involved. I hope they were just as mad at (Callum) Hudson-Odoi for having the opportunity to clear the ball.

Players from Nottingham Forest had two opportunities to clear the ball but chose not to. Thus, a minute and fifty-two seconds after the entire happened, don’t hold Paul Tierney responsible.

Had they scored after going straight up the other end for a few seconds. That would make far more sense to me than it does right now.

His opinion supported that of Gary Neville, who declared that “two minutes in football is an absolute age” and refuted claims that Tierney committed a “monumental error.”

The football editor for Mail Sport and Sutton’s co-host on It’s All Kicking Off, Ian Ladyman, took aim at the rules of the game, stating that other referees working at the stadium or in VAR need to be permitted to speak up and let Tierney return after his error.

Ladyman stated: “What really got to me about the incident was that he made the error during injury time, in the heat of the moment, and referees are allowed to make mistakes in a hectic game.”

“I find it incomprehensible that there isn’t any leeway for two assistant referees, a fourth official, and the VAR team to tell Paul that he made a mistake.” It was supposed to be a Forest possession; end the game and return.

However, such is not permitted. Restarting the game is not permitted, exactly as it was during the early part of the season when Luis Diaz’s goal against Tottenham inflicted that injustice on Liverpool. That is incorrect, in my opinion.

“What good is all this technology, earpieces, and assistance for referees if no one can tell them to stop the game, Paul, you’ve made a mistake, go back, it’s a Forest ball,” when they make a blatant mistake like that?
