Everton: Premier League inch closer to takeover answer after 777 Partners revelation.
The Premier League has agreed to meet with 777 Partners this week as they draw closer to making a judgment on the Everton takeover, according to the Daily Mail.
The American investment fund had planned to have a resolution one way or another by the end of 2023, but the problem has dragged on for six months now.
However, Matt Hughes reported on Monday (4 March) that 777 co-founder Josh Wander is to meet with league officials in the coming days.
“The Premier League have given the green light to meeting with Everton’s proposed buyers 777 Partners as they inch closer to making a decision on whether to approve the controversial takeover,” Hughes wrote.
“Mail Sport has learned that league officials will finally meet with 777 co-founder Josh Wander this week to discuss bid for Everton in what the American private equity firm are interpreting as a positive development.
“777 are understood to be frustrated at the length of time it has taken to secure a meeting with the Premier League after announcing a deal to buy Everton from Farhad Moshiri last summer.”
777 Partners takeover decision at Goodison Park now impending
Quite why it has taken this long for the Premier League to reach a conclusion regarding 777 Partners is a mystery.
More records were purportedly turned over last month and it now appears we are at the final step, a lot later than anyone originally envisioned.
Since news of this transaction initially emerged, Everton have been punished with a points deduction, appealed and heard back on that decision, and been struck with a second PSR charge.
If 777 were not aware of what they had signed up for previously, they definitely will be now.
There have been plenty of scare stories regarding the Americans, so it is logical the Premier League wants to be cautious with its checks.
At the same time, Everton have been left in the lurch for months now. It means that if this specific takeover falls through, the Toffees are back at square one and options will undoubtedly be restricted.
All supporters want is an explanation from the Premier League one way or the other. Given face-to-face negotiations are planned this week, you suspect the decision will be pretty shortly.
Only then, if it is given the green light, can Everton prepare for a new era away from the Farhad Moshiri administration.
