‘I can’t have that’… Gary Neville left angry after what Nottingham Forest did on Saturday

Gary Neville has explained that he didn’t like something which Nottingham Forest did on Saturday after their defeat to Liverpool.

Forest lost 1-0 – with Darwin Nunez scoring in the 99th minute – and Neville has been speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast.

So, what has Neville said about Forest after the game against Liverpool? Let’s take a closer look…

What Gary Neville said about incident involving Forest

Neville doesn’t seem to have much sympathy for Forest, which is likely because his favourite Manchester United was spared!

Paul Tierney made yet another horrible refereeing decision that Forest was not happy about.

Within moments of Ibrahim Konate’s injury forcing the game to end, Calum Hudson-Odoi had the ball.

But instead of getting the ball back, Tierney gave Caoimhin Kelleher the opportunity to punt it long, which prevented the Forest player from doing so.

Neville thinks it made no difference how things turned out that Forest gave up a minute and fifty seconds after that occurred.

“I get the feeling now that we are making a run-of-the-mill error, something you might see quite regularly in a season, as being described as a massive, massive thing,” he said to The Gary Neville Podcast.

“I can’t have the Clattenburg farce and the owner on the pitch side. I mean, I just can’t buy into it. I think we’re going too far in encouraging hate and rage towards officials, and eventually, I think it will get quite dangerous.

“You can’t hold it against the referee for calling a goal that was conceded one minute and fifty seconds earlier. 50 minutes in one minute? Okay, give it five or ten seconds, and I guarantee you would be furious if they scored on the other end of the field.

“Yes, it’s a mistake, no doubt about it. Forest should have had the ball, and that would have changed the game, but there’s also no guarantee Liverpool wouldn’t have scored in a different manner.”

“Liverpool currently has a certain something about them that makes it likely that this will happen.”

Neville makes comments that feel a little bit rich

Neville works as a Sky Sports pundit. Every week, the same Sky Sports hosts a programme called Ref Watch that is intended to denigrate and disparage referees.

Gary, please pardon us, but your remarks on Forest seem a little too detailed at this point.

Alright, has Evangelos Marinakis visited the pitch? Not at all. Is he allowed to watch his own football team from the sidelines? Indeed.

Neville raises valid arguments, including that no one wants the situation involving referees to turn dangerous in the same way as the terrible events that occurred in Turkey a few months ago.

But, Forest needs to put more pressure on itself in some way because its current record of making poor decisions on a weekly basis is embarrassing.

It’s said that during the season, things balance themselves out. Based on that, Forest should anticipate receiving roughly seven penalties by the end of May.

Neville’s remarks are commendable in part, and grassroots referees certainly require additional protection.

Nonetheless, they receive large compensation at the highest levels, and some football teams have had enough.
