PRE-MATCH INTERVIEW: ‘WE KNOW WHAT THE CHALLENGE IS, AND WE HAVE TO RISE TO IT’ – WARNE

When Derby County plays Sheffield United at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday (3 p.m. kickoff), head coach Paul

Warne has asked his team to rise to the occasion.

Matt Clarke, the Rams’ second acquisition of the January transfer window, has strengthened the team’s roster. After

a difficult run of results in the Sky Bet Championship, the Rams will try to turn things around when they play at

home.

Prior to Saturday’s matchup with the Blades, Warne spoke with RamsTV.

On Matt Clarke joining up with the squad.

Strengthening the defensive line was necessary. He has played at the level this year and provides experience. Because

he has been here before, it’s a fantastic drag and drop, and both sides are really happy in the best way conceivable.

He is a capable leader and player. I can tell what a good pro he is because he stuck out and performed extras

throughout training the other day. It’s obvious to us, based on my previous conversations with some of his

teammates.

On Saturday’s opponents Sheffield United.

It goes without saying that I wouldn’t reveal my ten different solutions to the opposition. We’ve been doing a lot of

excellent things, but we need to improve our counterattacks. We’ve made an effort to improve our shape and make

transitions more difficult so that we don’t give up opportunities. That, I believe, has been clear in the most recent

games. Since Lars was added, it has also been clear that we have a greater danger to our goal, but we also need to

take a lot more chances that we have created.

On the group galvanising and being up for the figh.

We must not feel sorry for ourselves, but we must also discover new ways to score. Once the whistle starts, only we

will be concerned. Nobody is sorry for us because we had the opportunity to pick up that and this. That is not the

point. It’s about the next game, getting the guys ready, and understanding how tough the task is, but also

understanding that we’re a very strong team when we’re playing at our best. We have spent the entire week

concentrating on that.
