Wojciech Szczęsny praises Thiago Motta’s game mentality, but admits Juventus may suffer during this transitional season. The goalie understands that, while the club is making substantial changes under Motta’s leadership, such a transition takes time and may come at the sacrifice of instant success.

Juventus has historically been a squad that values results over style, frequently preferring pragmatic football to obtain triumphs. However, after three seasons of lackluster football and uneven results under Max Allegri, the club opted to change course. Juventus’ appointment of Thiago Motta reflected their desire to combine winning football with a more visually appealing style of play. Expectations are high, as the squad hopes to compete as one of Italy’s best teams while also chasing trophies.

The Bianconeri remain one of Europe’s most well-known clubs, and they are actively playing in the Champions League this season. Juventus has done admirably on the European stage, but their home Serie A season has fallen short of their supporters’ high expectations. Despite a quality roster and a famous history, Juventus is not in contention for the Scudetto, leaving fans yearning for the domination of the past.

Motta v Napoli

Szczęsny sees this season as one of adaptation and improvement, rather than quick triumph. In an interview with Il Bianconero, he discussed the obstacles of establishing a new mindset while being positive for the future.

“I appreciate the concept, but it’s evident that changing everything for the future means compromising the first season’s results. Although I admire Thiago Motta’s approach to football and his style of play, there have been several draws. However, many have arrived at the conclusion, with the team victorious. It is part of the development of young people who must learn – to use a word close to Max Allegri – to control matches in critical times. Juventus has a lot of opportunity for growth, and I am confident that it will reclaim its former glory.”

Szczęsny emphasizes the value of patience during this transitional period. Not only does the team require time to acclimate to Motta’s tactical philosophy, but new players must also adjust to their surroundings and the club’s expectations. While improvement may be sluggish, Juventus’ ability to reclaim their past greatness remains intact, as long as the players and staff continue to strive toward their common goals.
