According to Daily Mirror columnist David Anderson, Everton are unlikely to capture Brighton striker Evan Ferguson on a permanent deal during this season.

According to Anderson’s story in the Mirror (January 29), the Toffees are among numerous teams interested in signing the Republic of Ireland international before the February 3 deadline.

Everton already has Jack Harrison and Armando Broja on loan, making it unable to make another temporary domestic acquisition. Additionally, PSR’s “financial straitjacket” prevents them from completing a complete transaction.

Anderson wrote: “David Moyes must deal with the budgetary constraints of PSR as he attempts to increase Everton’s firepower.

“Moyes has some money to spend, but extending it to cover the sort of forward Everton need is exceedingly tough. Moyes is not interested in adding additional players solely to increase the size of his squad when Everton is dealing with an injury issue.

“Everton continue to be associated with Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, who has only scored once in 14 games, and almost everyone is interested in the Republic of Ireland front.

“But Everton do not have a berth to take him on loan and a permanent deal is out of the question in January.”

Everton struggles to get Evan Ferguson done.

The 20-year-old striker appears to be in high demand as the transfer market closes on Monday.

West Ham have been prominently linked with his signing, but Bayer Leverkusen, the Bundesliga champions, are also reportedly interested.

The good news for Everton is that Brighton appear to be eager to do business, whether through a complete move or a loan agreement.

Unfortunately, after passing PSR tests for 2023-24, they are still unable to reach a permanent agreement due to budgetary constraints.

And, given the issues surrounding loan spaces, it appears that they will have little time to find a deal before the end of the season.

David Moyes does need frontline reinforcements before Monday’s deadline, but the club will have to go outside the box to make it happen.
