Norwich City: Johannes Hoff Thorup on Kellen Fisher position.
Despite deploying Norwich City’s quality in midfield in recent weeks, Johannes Hoff Thorup does not see Kellen Fisher’s future at that position.
Fisher played with Kenny McLean and Emiliano Marcondes in defeats to Sheffield United and Leeds, after impressing in the engine room throughout preseason and being shifted there mid-game many times.
The 20-year-old’s head coach still sees him as a long-term right-back, thus he was temporarily seconded.
“I prefer him as a right-back,” Thorup stated of his player. “I prefer that he be out there, so he can naturally step in when the game develops and be more connected to the midfielders.”
“I also like him when he’s on the outside, because he recognises the moments when he can join the attack and put in crosses.”
“That was and will continue to be his favored stance. It was mainly because I believe everyone could see that we didn’t have many midfielders available.
The injury situation has resulted in a variety of solutions, including players covering many positions. The Dane had mixed feelings about Fisher’s primary performances, noting that the demands on him were considerable.
“I think Sheffield United was probably a little bit better than the game in Leeds,” he said afterwards. “It’s a big role for him to step into, coming from non-league football a couple of years ago and now playing regular Championship minutes for the first time this season.”
“To do it as a center midfielder in a very demanding manner, I believe we have seen some instances when it has perhaps been a little too much for him.
“Against one of the best teams in the league that is fair, and I 100pc respect and accept that that’s how it is.”
