Kieran Maguire reveals £10m Celtic advantage over Rangers after fan outrage.

Celtic are “underperforming” this season, despite having a £10 million advantage over Rangers in total squad cost.

Finance specialist Kieran Maguire told Football Insider that Celtic spend more on wages than their Glasgow rivals.

Brendan Rodgers’ team has been overtaken by their opponents in the league rankings, with Rangers now two points ahead.

Celtic fans on social media are labeling club chairman Peter Lawwell a ‘blatant lie’ after he mentioned a lack of transfer activity during the recent annual general meeting.

Celtic reported a profit of £40 million in their 2022-23 accounts, with £67 million in the bank. However, Lawwell stated that transfer targets were not available during the January transfer window.

Maguire contended that Celtic’s problems this season are not financial, as they already have a significant advantage over other Scottish teams.

Celtic are “underperforming” as their £10 million advantage over Rangers is exposed.

“There is an argument for Celtic to invest more if they are behind Rangers in the table,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

“They have always operated prudently, and in the 2022-23 season, they accounted for more than half of the total cost of all Scottish Premiership squads.”

“Celtic are financially ahead of Rangers, which should give them an edge because their payroll bill is 20% higher than Rangers.

“Their squad cost is also £10million more than Rangers, which is a lot of money in the Scottish market.”
