Thomas Frank shares permanent transfer decision on Everton loanee Neal Maupay

Thomas Frank shares permanent transfer decision on Everton loanee Neal Maupay.

According to Thomas Frank, Brentford is not in a rush to decide whether to permanently move Neal Maupay from Everton.

Having made just 34 appearances for the Toffees in the 2022–2023 season, the Frenchman scored just twice before joining the Bees on loan from Goodison Park last summer.

At the Gtech Community Stadium, Maupay has found newfound success. He has scored eight goals in 23 games while partnering with Ivan Toney in a potent duo.

“Like a lot of other transfer decisions, that will be taken at the end of the season because we are not in a hurry,” Frank stated in an interview with Evening Standard on Friday, March 1.

Does Neal Maupay’s stay at Everton end?

A return to Brentford on loan seemed to be the best course of action for the 27-year-old after he went 13 months without scoring at Goodison Park. In November 2023, Brentford defeated West Ham United 3-2.

In the current season, Maupay has been a tremendous asset to the Bees, tallying eight goals and four assists in all competitions thus far.

Since Toney is probably moving on, it would make sense for Brentford to finalize Maupay’s permanent transfer at the end of the current season. However, Sean Dyche might possibly use him at Goodison Park.

Despite scoring thrice in the previous season, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is in a rut and has only scored three goals in the Premier League this season. Beto has scored three goals in 28 games.

Although Maupay possesses the drive, ambition, and passion necessary to compete at the highest level in the Premier League, his temperament and ability to frustrate opponents are constantly concerning; he most recently clashed with Kevin Nolan of West Ham.

More goals are desperately needed by both teams. Ahead of Burnley and Sheffield United, the Toffees currently have the third fewest goals in the division. Frank hasn’t had any trouble scoring goals, but the defense has been letting them in.

It will be intriguing to see what decisions Brentford and Everton make at the end of the season. Everton may decide not to rely on his goal-scoring struggles and instead try to put his prior performance in the past.
