Earlier this month, Newcastle United came close to signing Abdukodir Khusanov from RC Lens. They did not, however, beat Manchester City.

Newcastle were disappointed to miss out on Khusanov, but they must now turn their eyes to the future. While January signings are doubtful, they can lay the basis for potential acquisitions during the summer transfer season.

The Toon scouting squad is focusing on finding suitable players for Eddie Howe, with cross-channel excursions expected to yield positive results.

Newcastle have looked into Jonathan David, a Lille striker who will become a free agent at the conclusion of the season.

Newcastle authorities, however, have been looking at other clubs in addition to Lille.

Newcastle United staff admires Monaco strikers Eliesse Ben Seghir and Maghnes Akliouche, as reported by the Chronicle.

Last year, Geordie Boot Boys learned that Newcastle had watched Akliouche. Now, it appears that his teammate Ben Seghir has also gained the Magpies’ eye.

It is unknown how Eliesse Ben Seghir would fit in at Newcastle.

Newcastle United’s admiration for Ben Seghir is understandable. The 19-year-old is having a fantastic season so far, with Monaco third in Ligue 1.

Ben Seghir has had a significant impact in the final third, scoring seven goals and giving four assists in 29 games across all competitions. Morocco’s international player, who has expressed admiration for Neymar, is a fascinating talent to watch.

That is shown in the teenager’s dribbling skills, as he effortlessly glides past players. He is the sort of player that Newcastle United supporters would adore.

However, it remains unclear where he might fit in at Newcastle. Ben Seghir has spent the bulk of the season on the left flank, with occasional appearances as an attacking midfielder.

However, he does not play on the right, where the Magpies require reinforcements. Newcastle already has Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes on the left side, while Joelinton can also play there. Jacob Murphy will be Howe’s sole right winger when Miguel Almiron is sold to Atlanta United.

While Newcastle may have ambitions to convert the right-footed Ben Seghir into a right-sided attacker or have other ideas for the Ligue 1 prodigy, it is still unclear what his position would be at St James’ Park.

But Newcastle has undoubtedly spotted a promising potential, and it will be interesting to watch if Paul Mitchell pursues this further in 2025.
