Five Wrexham players who will clearly be axed by Phil Parkinson vs Crawley Town and who will replace them.
Wrexham face Crawley Town on Saturday, and manager Phil Parkinson has already explored making changes.
Wrexham were defeated 3-2 by Stevenage on Tuesday evening, a startling result for several reasons.
For starters, discounting everything else, a third-place club with top-two ambitions should not be losing to a squad that began the day 15th in League One.
There is also the issue of the two clubs’ home and away records.Wrexham had not lost at the Racecourse Ground since March 16th, 2024, while Stevenage had only scored four away league goals in 2024/25 before the midweek game.
Parkinson may make changes for Wrexham’s match against Crawley Town on Saturday, following their poor performance in the first half of the season.
Here are the five players Phil Parkinson is most likely to fire and their replacements.
Ollie Palmer replaces Steven Fletcher
He has been a devoted servant to the club, but three goals in 29 league appearances this season simply isn’t sufficient.
Ollie Palmer was given several chances to show himself, but after failing to have a single shot at half-time, he will most likely be dropped this weekend.
Steven Fletcher, one of the club’s leading scorers this season, will start against Crawley, despite struggling to complete 90 minutes.
Elliot Lee represents Jack Marriott.
Although Elliot Lee assisted Max Cleworth’s goal against Stevenage, he is not a good scorer.
Parkinson’s decision to play Lee and Palmer up front has sparked criticism from fans, and Tuesday’s result may prompt him to reconsider.
Jack Marriott performed well off the bench and should be handed his first start after returning from injury.
Matty James replaces Andy Cannon
Matty James has not made many mistakes since entering in October, but he performed poorly on January 28th.
He failed to give any protection for his backline, and if George Dobson starts, as he should after shining against Stevenage, James must be replaced since the two plainly do not function well together.
Andy Cannon and Dobson worked well together in Wrexham’s early 2024/25 season, resulting in consistent wins and clean sheets.
Dan Scarr and Thomas O’Connor represent Lewis Brunt and
The remaining two changes will almost certainly be in defence, after Wrexham conceded three goals in a single game for the first time since their loss to Birmingham City earlier this season.
Lewis Brunt, who has returned from injury, will replace Thomas O’Connor on the right side of the back three.
While Eoghan O’Connell lost his spot due to poor form, Dan Scarr has struggled during his absence.
The former Plymouth Argyle man may just need a few games under his belt, but Parkinson cannot afford to give him that right now due to the promotion chase.
