Watford are interested in signing former PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa, who is now a free agent after leaving the reigning Ligue 1 winners last summer.

According to Foot Mercato, the Hornets have shown interest in a surprise signing as the January transfer window nears its end.

Tom Cleverley is eager to bring more players to Vicarage Road after signing Udinese’s James Abankwah on loan earlier this month.

Watford are apparently aiming to outbid Hull City for Southampton left-back Charlie Taylor, but their recent interest in Kurzawa may impede the move.

Watford FC is interested in Layvin Kurzawa’s move.

The Hornets are one of the teams interested in signing Kurzawa on a free transfer. They are apparently up against competition from European teams, including Leganes of La Liga.

According to RMC Sport writer Fabrice Hawkins, Leganes has made a contract offer to the 32-year-old. According to reports, the transaction has not yet been consummated, and conversations will continue, with Kurzawa still looking for a new club after leaving PSG last summer.

The 32-year-old has had a successful career in French football, winning the Ligue 1 title five times while at PSG.

Years Club Appearances Goals
2010-2015 Monaco 96 8
2015-2024 PSG 154 14
2022-2023 Fulham (loan) 6 2

He made over 150 appearances for the Parisians between 2015 and 2024, although he only appeared once in his last two years, including a dismal season-long loan spell with Fulham in 2022/23.

Layvin Kurzawa would make an interesting addition for Watford FC.

It would be interesting to see a player with the Frenchman’s undeniable pedigree and top-level experience in the Championship.

Although evidence suggests he may be a big coup at this level, Watford has a history of recruiting high-profile free players with mixed success, as Moussa Sissoko experienced a difficult season on his return to the club.

Kurzawa would not be inexpensive in terms of labor, one would assume. Meanwhile, he has played very little football in recent years, so Cleverley’s team should proceed with caution while considering any prospective transfer.

Watford have agreed to sell Ken Sema this January.

Watford, on the other hand, has to improve their defensive, since they presently concede 1.4 goals per game. The Hornets score the same number of goals each game on average, but it is the sixth-best total in the league, while their defense is among the worst.

Watford will face Norwich City at home on Saturday afternoon, looking to improve their form after only winning one of their past seven Championship games and falling to ninth place in the league table.
