Chelsea has had a strong relationship with AC Milan over the previous decade, sending several players on loan and selling them for a high price when they are no longer needed at Stamford Bridge.

This month, however, it appears that Juventus has taken over as our primary Serie A source. Renato Veiga completed his loan transfer to Turin earlier this week. He will stay until the conclusion of the season, and potentially longer if everything goes well.

According to the well-connected Ben Jacobs, another Blue may be on his way to join him. Carney Chukwuemeka has been out all year, missing the most of the season due to injury, and playing intermittently the previous season. A surprise transfer to Juventus would be a huge coup for him, assuming he can make it happen.

According to Jacobs, Everton and West Ham are also interested, and our sister club Strasbourg may be a possibility – however this feels like a “if all else fails” scenario.

Everyone’s interests align in the Chukwuemeka loan decision.

Chukwuemeka’s transfer to Juventus would be on loan, as we’d expect from West Ham or Everton. Individual clubs can negotiate a purchase clause. From Chelsea’s perspective, Chukwuemeka has plenty of contract time left, and the focus will be on getting him on the pitch to begin establishing his worth for sale.

The real question is why they didn’t get this done over the summer. Even in terms of player trading, Carney’s career has been squandered over the past six months.
