Paul Merson, Chris Sutton and Co have made their predictions for the Magpies’ home clash with Wolves.
Newcastle United knows that in-form Wolves will make things tough when they visit St. James’ Park in search of their first home victory since mid-December.
Eddie Howe’s team is still bitter by their crushing loss to Arsenal, and their victory over Blackburn on Tuesday night in a penalty shootout did little to cheer them up. The United manager does, however, have more choices because the Magpies saw Alexander Isak and Joe Willock gain more playing time following injury layoffs, while Elliott Anderson also made a late comeback at Ewood Park.
With a 1-0 victory against Sheffield United last weekend, Wolves climbed ahead of Newcastle. In recent months, Wolves has shown well away from home, winning at Chelsea and Tottenham. Here are the predictions provided by Premier League commentators for the match between Newcastle and Wolves this weekend, as is customary.

“As I had predicted, Newcastle went to Arsenal and got absolutely battered,”erson said to Sportskeeda.”They had an excellent FA Cup performance midweek, but they will face Man City in the quarterfinal, so you could say their cup run is coming to an end.
Conversely, the Wolves are a highly underestimated football team that has been entertaining to watch under Gary O’Neil. Although I believe Newcastle will win easily at home, I do believe there will be goals in this match. That’s all I’m saying. Wolves are a good club, but they play their best when they aren’t picked to win, which isn’t always the case.
It was shocking to see the Magpies place in the top four the previous season. Regarding their current campaign, their situation doesn’t really surprise me because, given their collective overachievement from the previous season, everyone knew they couldn’t maintain that level of performance. We all knew that wouldn’t happen again, so we shouldn’t blame them based on that.”

Sutton stated in his BBC predictions, “The more I see of Wolves, the more I can see why they are doing well.” “They pose a threat and are well-organized, even though Matheus Cunha’s injury is unfortunate. Newcastle, like Gary O’Neil’s club, advanced to the FA Cup quarterfinals in midweek. However, they had to rely on penalties to defeat my former team, Blackburn, and their performance demonstrated that they are not as strong as they were the previous season.
“I always support Newcastle at home, just like I do with Everton, but they haven’t won at St James’ Park in their last four games. If Eddie Howe wants to remain in his position, that needs to change. He needs a successful finish to the season to keep his confidence that he is the right person to lead them ahead, but I don’t think he is about to lose his job.
“He obviously wants to reach that goal, but as of right now, they are in 10th place and far from the kind of performance that allowed them to qualify for the Champions League last season, when Howe went above and beyond. They must return to being the daring squad they were earlier in the campaign, regardless of where they place in the standings.
“The more I think about it, the more I think Wolves will nick this but I am actually going to keep backing Newcastle, because the law of averages means they are going to win at St James’ Park again sooner or later.”
