The victory over Charlton, however, is Exeter’s sole win in their past five League One games; they have lost three and
drawn one, which contrasts with their early-season performance, in which they won six of their first ten games.
With one more game played, the Grecians are only three points behind Barnsley, who presently hold the final playoff
berth. This gives the match versus Birmingham even more motivation.
Exeter will enter Tuesday’s match with a chance to go three games without losing at home for the first time since a
five-game run between late February and early April. This will be the first time the two teams have ever met.
Birmingham, who are considered the favorites to win League One, have recently faced hardship following a stellar
start to the season, winning nine of their first 11 league games.
But the Cobblers have lost their previous three league games, including a 3-2 loss after 1-1 draws with Mansfield and
Northampton.
With 30 points, Birmingham is now in fourth position in the standings, one point behind second-place Wrexham,
who have played two more games, and five points behind Wycombe, the high-flying table-toppers.
Tuesday is when Chris Davies’ team will try to get back on track, but the Cobblers’ three straight away losses and
draws are concerning.
The fact that Birmingham gave up three goals in a single game for the first time this season is also concerning
because it may indicate weaknesses in their defense, which has been strong for the most part of the campaign.
Midfielder Ryan Woods, who was suspended for his red card against Lincoln, will return to Exeter after missing the
previous league game.
But Patrick Jones and Yanic Wildschut are still out due to hamstring and ligament ailments, respectively.
Lee Buchanan is still working to get fit for games after recovering from a calf injury, and Birmingham is coping with
injuries to wingers Scott Wright and Emil Hansson.
Jay Stansfield has scored in back-to-back matches, and he is expected to retain his spot in attack, supported by
Luke Harris.
