The Toffees are yet to make a move in the winter market with no new faces landing on Merseyside for David Moyes.
Since arriving back at Everton, Moyes has been able to improve the results but he has also seen a number of players sidelined through injury.
Orel Mangala is set to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee ligament injury on the weekend.
But there is still no movement from the Toffees in the market, despite their injuries.
However, an opportunity may well be unfolding in front of them with the player’s manager now refusing to play him.
Everton target Marcus Edwards completely snubbed by Sporting CP
Having impressed during his spell in Portugal, Everton have shown an interest in Marcus Edwards this month.
But his time in Lisbon seems to be coming to a turbulent ending.
Sporting are in Champions League action on Wednesday night, but their manager Rui Borges continues to snub Edwards from his squad.
“Edwards is out of tomorrow’s game, that’s all I can say. That’s it,” he said in his press conference on Tuesday.
“[Is he Sporting’s biggest problem?] They ask me a question and it’s simple to answer. The answer will always be the same. He’s not for tomorrow’s game, it doesn’t bother me at all.”
With the winger struggling in Portugal, the ‘fantastic’ Edwards has changed his agent mid-way through the winter market.
So, it would appear the Englishman is calling out for a club to come and save him.
Edwards needs to find a new club
It is becoming a real sticky situation over in Lisbon for Edwards who has not featured in the league since November for Sporting.
Across all competitions, the 26-year-old has only played 346 minutes this season.
Moyes wants to see some attacking additions signed before the window shuts with some real issues up front for the Toffees.
Although Edwards may not be the goalscorer he needs, he could provide a creative spark which has been missing without Dwight McNeil.
