Pundit predicts Aston Villa to sell player very soon after Emery assessment

BBC Sport pundit predicts ‘good player’ to depart Aston Villa as early as January transfer window

Leander Dendoncker, according to Alan Hutton, is a “good player,” but not one who has the ability to advance Aston Villa to the next level.

In September 2022, Dendoncker left Midlands rivals Wolves to join Villa for a rumored £12.9 million fee [The Athletic].

Since then, though, the Belgium international has only made 11 starts and has not been selected at the start of a Premier League match this season.

Dendoncker played 90 minutes for Villa in their 1-1 Europa Conference League draw with Zrinjski Mostar in midweek, but he is certain to make way against Brentford.

Villa may well be able to attract bigger names next year should they qualify for the Champions League for the first time.

Former Villa defender Hutton believes it may well be that 28-year-old Dendoncker is sold at some point, potentially as soon as January.

Every player in the team will be evaluated by the incoming manager, Hutton said to Villa News.

“He has provided them with lots of chances in competitions throughout Europe. He’s not the obvious choice, in my opinion, to advance Villa.

Although he is undoubtedly a talented player, I believe the team will let him leave soon.

In other Aston Villa news, a crucial player for the trip to Brentford will be absent for Unai Emery.
