Their new Kalvin Phillips: Leeds keen on late move for “world-class” ace

After rising through the academy and playing in the first team before being sold for a high price, Kalvin Phillips will always be remembered by Leeds United fans. The 29-year-old made his debut during the 2014–15 Championship season and ended up making 234 appearances for his boyhood team, scoring 14 goals from a deep-lying midfield position.

However, he would depart ahead of the 2022/23 season, joining Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for a fee in the region of £45m, banking the club a massive profit, but losing one of their star men in the process. It’s safe to say his career hasn’t hit the heights since, only making 31 appearances for the Premier League champions, enduring a torrid loan spell at West Ham United before joining newly promoted Ipswich Town on a temporary basis in the summer.

Before the transfer window closes next week, manager Daniel Farke has the chance to sign his own version of the England international, two and a half years after he left Elland Road.

The Sun claims that Leeds is preparing a bold move to strengthen the midfield department in the near future by acquiring Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, a midfielder for Besiktas.

They must contend with rivals like Sheffield United, Wolves, and Leicester City, who are also vying for the 31-year-old former Liverpool player.

Only in the summer of 2023 did he relocate to Turkey, but since then, he has battled for playing time, making just six appearances in 2024–2025, only two of which were from a starting position.

According to the report, the Whites think he could significantly improve the present squad’s quality, which would help them advance in their pursuit of a return to the Premier League by the end of May.

Even while there seems to be fierce rivalry for the former England international’s services, it is clear that he would be an excellent acquisition, with the ability set to help Farke in his pursuit.
