Ipswich Town: Sheffield Wednesday make loan offer for Harry Clarke.
Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly offered to recruit Ipswich Town defender Harry Clarke on loan until the end of the season. The Sheffield Star, which initially reported the Owls’ interest earlier this month, has claimed that a formal approach has been made, with less than a week till the end of the January transfer window. Other Championship clubs are reportedly interested in signing the 23-year-old, who has made four starts and three cameo appearances in the Premier League this season. Town manager Kieran McKenna indicated that Clarke may be allowed to depart on loan this month, with Ben Godfrey’s arrival from Atalanta providing additional competition. Axel Tuanzebe is also fit again while Ben Johnson can cover right-back and right wing-back.
If Clarke leaves this month, the Blues will have more room in their squad to sign new players, with Sky Sports reporting that a striker, winger, and midfielder could be targeted following the arrivals of Godfrey (Atalanta, loan), Jaden Philogene (Aston Villa, £20 million plus add-ons), and Julio Enciso (Brighton, loan). Winger Wes Burns may be de-registered if his knee injury is projected to keep him out for the rest of the season. George Edmundson (Middlesbrough, £600k) and Ali Al-Hamadi (Stoke City, on loan) have both left. Sheffield Wednesday are currently in 10th place in the Championship table, just three points from the play-off places. Danny Rohl’s team has enjoyed a quiet transfer window thus far, but they are eager to strengthen in the coming days.
