Exclusive: Reading reject Stevenage bid for ex-Tottenham star Michael Craig.

According to Football Insider, Reading has rejected an offer from League One rivals Stevenage for versatile star Michael Craig. Craig is out of contract this summer, and Stevenage has made an approach to sign the former Tottenham youngster on a permanent basis. The Royals have rejected Boro’s proposal for the 21-year-old ahead of next week’s transfer deadline (3 February). He joined Reading on a free transfer in 2022 after leaving Tottenham at the conclusion of his contract and is now an important member of their squad. Craig has made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Berkshire club this season, moving into a right-back role.

The ex-Spurs star has started in 24 of those outings, scoring one goal.

He extended his contract by 12 months last year (2024), but is expected to leave Reading for free at the end of the season. Craig, who has one Scotland Under-21 cap, has made 70 appearances in all competitions for Reading, who lost manager Ruben Selles to Hull City last month. Selles was replaced by Noel Hunt, with the Royals sitting seventh in League One and one point away from a play-off spot. Meanwhile, Stevenage is 15th in the third tier, 13 points clear of the relegation zone.
