Aston Villa in shock transfer link to £35m Man United misfit as Ruben Amorim clears decks

Aston Villa in shock transfer link to £35m Man United misfit as Ruben Amorim clears decks.

The Dutchman was listed as a potential target for Unai Emery and company in January. BirminghamLive has the most recent Aston Villa transfer news.

Joshua Zirkzee, an unsuitable striker for Manchester United, has been linked to a January transfer to Aston Villa.

The website CatchOffside reports that new manager Ruben Amorim is letting go of the 23-year-old Dutchman who was brought to Old Trafford by Erik ten Hag last summer.

They write: “The player is drawing a lot of interest from big European clubs, especially in Serie A, which is known to be Zirkzee’s preference, despite only scoring one goal for United on the first day of the season.”

However, they also state: “Aston Villa has put themselves forward in the unlikely event that Zirkzee wishes to continue his footballing education in the Premier League.”

Zirkzee, who joined United for £35 million in the summer from Bologna, has a contract that expires in 2029; it’s unknown if they want to leave permanently or on loan.

It’s odd why Villa would want to add another striker in January when they already have Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran, two established players. Instead of being the center of their attack, the versatile Zirkzee could be deployed in behind a central striker.

According to SportsMole, Zirkzee is a player who appears to be more suited to a deeper offensive position and does not really match the center-forward position in the Premier League.

Villa has experienced a number of injuries this season as they contend with four possible fronts, but thus far, attack has been the least concerning area, with midfield and Unai Emery’s defense taking a toll.

However, Emery and his backroom staff frequently come up with unexpected transfer deals that weren’t previously considered, as they have already demonstrated during their tenure at Villa Park.

It’s unclear if he would be willing to stay in the Premier League or if it would involve a move for a player like Zirkzee.

According to “sources” who spoke to CaughtOffside, Juventus is among the favorites to sign Zirkzee “because of his past relationship with Thiago Motta, who is currently the manager of Juventus, at Bologna.”

“Amorim’s former club, Sporting, are thought to be interested in making a move when the time is right,” they write, adding that Napoli and both Milan clubs are also keen.
