Ian Wright blasts ’embarrassing’ Everton appeal news in Manchester City ‘dancing’ verdict

Ian Wright blasts ’embarrassing’ Everton appeal news in Manchester City ‘dancing’ verdict.

Ian Wright thinks Manchester City lawyers will have the Premier League “dancing” after the verdict of an Everton appeal against a 10-point deduction was announced.

The Toffees were punished with the punishment after being found guilty of flouting Profit and Sustainability guidelines but were awarded four back following an appeal against the judgment.

Everton disputed the initial ruling on nine grounds with two of those upheld (Sky Sports, 27 February) and Wright thinks that City – who were struck with 115 accusations – will consider it as excellent news for their own case.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast (29 February), a bewildered Wright said: “If you’ve got people doing that job and they’ve got nine to look over or whatever it is and they get them wrong to the point they have to give points back – what are Man City’s lawyers going to do to people like this?

“They’re gonna have them dancing. It’s just crazy how they can get that wrong. I think personally what should have occurred is, they should do what they’re doing, ‘right we’re fining you you’re gonna get 10 points’ then they say ‘right we’re gonna appeal’, let them appeal then we find out after the appeal then you do the judgement.

“How are you gonna do it before? How do you get into this awkward situation?”

When will Manchester City verdict be released after Everton appeal news?

Ian Wright is right in some respects here and mistaken in others.

It was a stupid scenario and it was embarrassing how it was handled, that is absolutely for sure. It seems from the outside looking in that a number was pulled out of thin air.

But his concept for how the process should have run isn’t really possible. Waiting until the possibility of an appeal to release any news would have led to more confusion and speculation than we already had.

In terms of his position on City’s own charges, well he might have a point we simply don’t know how that will go. Will we hear a verdict anytime soon? Probably not. After all, there are 115 charges to sift through thus the procedure will take a lot longer.

Obviously now, Everton will be keenly awaiting news on when the verdict of their second charge for allegedly flouting PSR regulations will be heard.

In other Everton news, Wayne Rooney made a new manager admittance at Goodison Park.
