Swansea City are requesting £3.5 million from Coventry City for Matt Grimes, according to Football League World.
On Monday, BBC Sport claimed that the Sky Blues were seeking a move for the Swans midfielder and had already seen two bids for the 29-year-old rejected. However, FLW can now confirm that Frank Lampard’s team will have to spend £3.5 million for his services.
Swansea issue Coventry with Grimes asking price
The Sky Blues are interested in acquiring Grimes, while the Swans have set a high asking price, indicating their desire to keep Grimes or profit from a transfer fee for a player with a contract expiring in 2027.
Coventry have yet to make any signings since the appointment of new manager Lampard in November. Club owner Doug King is likely to back the former England player in the transfer market, following the controversial removal of popular manager Mark Robins.
The West Midlands team is only six points behind the play-offs, having won three consecutive games against Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers, and Watford.
Grimes’ dominant play in a Swans shirt suggests he might be a valuable addition for Lampard’s team as they aim for the play-offs.
Meanwhile, the Swans face the Sky Blues in their next Championship encounter on Saturday, although current club captain Grimes might play for the opposition if King agrees to pay the £3.5 million fee.
Grimes would be a big loss for Swansea
While the Englishman could be a great addition to the Sky Blues, he would also be a huge loss for the South Wales side, who may need him more than ever.

The Swans are currently seven points above the relegation zone and have not won since overcoming current bottom-three team Luton Town on December 29.
Grimes has been a key player for Swansea since returning from a loan spell with Northampton Town in 2018. It would be unfortunate for manager Luke Williams to lose his captain, especially with the transfer market closing soon.
