Southampton and their fans are going through a tough Premier League phase. The club has embarked on multiple losing streaks and is unfortunately on track to being relegated.
To rub salt into their wounds, Derby County’s infamous record could be Southampton’s by the end of May. In such a situation, star players like Aaron Ramsdale are doing their best to uplift the team’s morale.
Still, rival fans and pundits have been slamming and bantering Southampton. And now, even rival players have joined them.

Liverpool superstar mocks Southampton by putting them below Championship club
Yesterday, The Players Tribune interviewed Liverpool’s wide attacker Cody Gakpo on his playing career. Remembering his journey towards becoming one of Netherlands’ brightest prospects, Gakpo mocked Southampton while recalling his PSV spell.
In his own words, Gakpo said: “So I said, If I score only one time, I’ll go to Southampton. If I score two times, I’ll go to Leeds. If I score three times, I’ll stay.”
In case you didn’t know, the Saints retained a keen interest in signing Gakpo in the past. Later, the attacker garnered interest from all over Europe after his World Cup 2022 performances and joined Liverpool, as a result.
Therefore, Gakpo’s rating Leeds United higher than Southampton was a complete embarrassment, even though mentioning Southampton was a nice thing. After all, the Saints are a Premier League team, at least for this season, while the latter are participating in the Championship.
It just so happened that Southampton defeated Leeds United to earn promotion. Therefore, it is completely nonsensical to minimize the Saints in order to give Leeds credit.
Cody Gakpo has experienced two victories versus Southampton this season on the field. Nevertheless, there is still a Premier League match at Anfield, and let’s hope the Saints win.
