Leicester City is apparently looking to add extra firepower in their Premier League survival effort by
making an eye-catching approach for Brighton striker Evan Ferguson.
Journalist Alan Nixon claims that City wants to sign the 20-year-old Republic of Ireland
international during the January transfer window, but it would have to be for a fee. City already has
Facundo Buonanotte on a season-long contract from the Seagulls, and Premier League clubs are
only allowed to have one player on loan from a rival team at a time.
Ferguson was valued at over £100 million when he first appeared on the scene, just 18 months ago.
when teams like Manchester United and Chelsea were interested in signing him. He would still
command a high price, even though his reputation is not as strong following a challenging run of
play in which he has only scored once in 30 games across all competitions.
Ferguson, who has only made one Premier League start this season, is reportedly eager to leave
Brighton in January, although it appears he would rather take a loan. City cannot do it unless they
terminate or permanently alter Buonanotte’s loan.
When City launched an initial approach of more than £20 million for Panathinaikos and Greece
forward Fotis Ioannidis in the summer, it appeared that they were prepared to spend money on a
striker. On the day of the deadline, however, they signed Edward instead of coming back.
The Palace loanee hasn’t played much, but City hasn’t had much trouble at the top end this season.
scoring in all but one of their games. With four goals, Jamie Vardy leads the league in scoring
followed by Buonanotte and Jordan Ayew, each with three.
Ferguson has scored 17 goals in 74 outings for Brighton throughout his Premier League career. He
finished with six last season. Chelsea is still a big fan of the young player, but they’re probably going
to be put out.
