Rangers boss hails ‘major win’ over Kilmarnock but asks for clarity on ‘weird situation’

Rangers manager Philippe Clement lauded his team’s victory over Kilmarnock and their “massive”

mentality.

After acknowledging that his team looked like “Bambi on ice” in the first half of their “major” 2-1 victory

over Kilmarnock, Rangers manager Philippe Clement praised the mindset his team had in the second

half.

Thanks to a penalty kick from Danny Armstrong in the 11th minute, Derek McInnes‘ team deservedly led

at halftime. However, two goals in the final four minutes of the second half from James Tavernier and

Tom Lawrence sealed a crucial victory for the Gers, who now lead the Scottish Premiership by two points

over Celtic.

“Resilience, mentality, solidarity and the quality to adapt. We started the game well with a good set-piece

from which we could have scored – but they saved it on the line. Had we gone in front it’s a totally

different game,” explained the Belgian boss.

“After 10 minutes you get this penalty against you, which was a frustrating moment because the whole

scenario goes against you. You then have an opponent who sits back and waits for your mistakes to make

counter attacks and to be dangerous. And our tempo was too slow in the first half. We needed some time

to adapt because it was a totally different kind of football.

“There were times when I thought my teammates were Bambi on ice. We discussed it at halftime and

they had to adjust to that. They were fantastic after that. We possessed immense fortitude, a strong

sense of rhythm, and a fierce determination. That’s a huge victory. due to the game’s scenario that works

against you. However, this is no longer a bunch of athletes who give up, stop, or get anxious.

“They put up a strong fight, stick together, and exhibit excellence. There were other strong attacks in

addition to the two excellent goals. It’s crucial, the Rangers manager continued.
