Bristol City and their rivals have until the end of the window to sign players
Bristol City has had a rather quiet transfer window thus far. They have yet to sign any players and are being patient in their recruitment.
The Robins are not rushing into any transactions and have until the deadline on Monday, February 3rd. They have the opportunity to add more quality to their ranks.
Bristol City triumphed 2-1 at home against Blackburn Rovers over the weekend, boosting their play-off ambitions. Scott Twine and Nakhi Wells scored goals at Ashton Gate.
Middlesbrough are considering a £5 million bid for Slovan Bratislava striker David Strelec, according to The Sun. Boro are looking to sign the forward before the end of the January transfer window. Strelec, 23, joined his current team on loan in 2023 before the trade was made permanent. He has since scored 29 goals in 79 outings across all competitions, with 15 of those coming this season.
The Slovakia international progressed through Slovan Bratislava’s academy systems, being a regular at several youth levels before breaking into the first squad. Spezia enticed him away in 2023, but he returned immediately after. Michael Carrick may see Strelec as a player to bolster his attacking department in the second half of the season. Boro were defeated 2-1 away to Preston North End and sit three points ahead of Bristol City in the league.
Following their defeat at Deepdale, Carrick stated, “Today, I thought it was there for us. We started well, defended well, and gained control of big areas. There were a few instances where we shot ourselves in the foot. The lads are distraught, and I’m disappointed. It’s a terrible day to sit here with nothing.
“It is not a good watch at all. We’ve shot ourselves in the foot by focusing solely on the next goal.
Sheffield Wednesday want Stuart Armstrong
According to journalist Alan Nixon on Patreon, Sheffield Wednesday want to recruit midfielder Stuart Armstrong from the Vancouver Whitecaps. The 32-year-old moved to Canada last year and has scored two goals in 11 MLS games. Armstrong, a Scotland international, is reportedly considering a return to England. The Owls drew 2-2 with Bristol City last week and are also aiming for a place in the top six.
After signing him, Vancouver Whitecaps’ sports director Axel Schuster told BBC Sport: “He is a player who has thrived for many years at the highest levels in the United Kingdom, as well as internationally with Scotland. He adds expertise, tactical understanding, positional versatility, and an extremely high work rate. Furthermore, his passing ability and exceptional chance generation from midfield will enhance our team’s overall attack.”
Armstrong has extensive experience, having previously played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Dundee United, Celtic, and Southampton. He helped the latter improve last year under former boss Russell Martin before leaving as a free agent.
